Coenraad Esveld, author of Modern Railway Track, has extensive experience in railway infrastructure, particularly in design and maintenance. He spent 17 years at Netherlands Railways in the Permanent Way Department, where he was responsible for quality control, and served as a professor of railway engineering at Delft University of Technology for 13 years. Since 1991, he has also been the director of Esveld Consulting Services. Throughout his career, he has published hundreds of papers and led numerous research projects. In recent decades, his work has focused significantly on high-speed rail, with close involvement in projects in the Netherlands, Korea, and Taiwan.
